BSD Unix
- Berkeley Software Distribution
- Developed at the University of California,

- First release in 1977
- Extended Unix by adding virtual memory support, C shell, job control, and
TCP/IP networking
- Derivatives known as 4.2 BSD (1984), 4.3 BSD (1985), and 4.4 BSD (1993)
- One of the best known commercial derivative of BSD is SunOS
System V Release 4 (SVR4)
- Version 7 led to System III in 1982, System V.2 in 1984, and System V.3 in
1986
- System V.4 released in 1988
- Incorporated some features of BSD
- AT&T also joined forces with Sun (in 1988) to jointly develop future versions of
System V
