B.S. Ed. in Secondary Education w/ Emphasis in Mathematics
The B.S.Ed. in secondary education with an emphasis in
mathematics introduces students to those branches of mathematics most
relevant to the teaching of mathematics at the secondary school level.

The following is a brief summary of degree requirements.

I. All general education requirements of the University.
Courses in the major may be applied to satisfy the Mathematical Skills
requirement, and the Natural Sciences or Mathematics requirements. Related
Area courses may be used to meet other distribution requirements if
appropriate.
II. The following course work in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is required. (Must be completed with a grade of C- or higher)

- 1250 Introduction to Computing
- 1320 Applied Statistics I
- 1800 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I
- 1900 Analytic Geometry and Calculus II
- 2000 Analytic Geometry and Calculus III
- 2020 Introduction to Differential Equations
- 2450 Elementary Linear Algebra
- 3000 Discrete Mathematics
- 4100 Real Analysis I
- 4400 Introduction to Abstract Algebra
Two additional courses
Above 4000 in mathematics or statistics. One of which
must be chosen from
- 4660 Foundations of Geometry
- 4670 Introduction to Non-Euclidean Geometry
Satisfy the Related Area Requirement
Students must satisfy the requirements in two of the
groups listed under
Related Area Requirements with a grade of C- or better.
Students seeking a double degree, either within the
department or with another department, do not have to fulfill the
related area requirement.
III. Complete the School of Education's Professional
Education and Clinical Experience requirements.
IV. Meet the State of Missouri requirements for
secondary certification.
