Math Technology Learning Center (MTLC)

The Math Technology Learning Center [MTLC] is a facility for computer-based
instruction in lower-level Mathematics.
We saw a problem in our College Algebra courses as we had been teaching them. Many of the students were not absorbing the concepts as quickly as they were presented in a traditional classroom setting.
We looked for ways to let the students take charge of their own learning time.
We found that we could let the computer aid us in helping the students to
practice the concepts that they see in a unit of Algebra as much as they need
to reach mastery.
The largest part of our facility contains clusters of computers that students
can use to do on-line homework and access resource materials. Students can work
together, or, when they need additional help, raise a flag for a teaching
assistant or instructor to come over.
